Summary

PaperWorks Industries is looking for a flexo press operator for our state of the art printing press.  The Press Operator will be responsible for following the plant processes and plant standard operating procedures. The Press Operator is responsible for maintenance as well as coaching and mentoring press crews.

Responsibilities

The Press Operator is responsible for maintaining the press in a safe and sound condition.  The Press Operator will also be responsible for regular maintenance and up keep of the press, roller settings, and maintaining the quality of product being produced off of the press.

  • Print job jacket items per company and customer specifications.
  • Assume proper operating procedures for the Heidelberg printing presses.
  • Adhere to all quality assurance specifications and color standard procedures; inform Press Supervisor of any problems/variances.
  • Learn and fill in all applicable areas of the job jacket, enter information on the waste form and job control procedure sheet.
  • Check cut order against the number of printed press sheets.
  • Practice total line clearance when jobs are complete, enforce same procedure to Press Helper.
  • Responsible for the efficient output and quality work standards of the Press Helper.
  • Operate printing presses per job specifications, production codes, and quantity output.
  • Perform necessary machine adjustments for proper quality and efficient production output.
  • Execute press checks, pull press sheets every 500th sheet and pull cut down sheets every 1000th for comparison of color standard to ok’d press sheet.
  • Place cut down sheets in proper storage area after job completion.
  • Ensure press sheets are checked for correct position, dryness, registration, hickies, wash out, scumming, and marks.
  • Mark and record impressions on each cut down sheet
  • Determine proper skid height from amount of ink coverage and assure press helper maintains the height.
  • Make certain all printed skids have load tickets/hold tickets attached; job number, operator’s initials and time printed.
  • Confirm that printed skids are in correct holding area and in job unitization.
  • Administer daily plate checks for each job.
  • Examine each job for offset.
  • Mount press plates for production, return used plates and die vinyl to holding area.
  • Use available die vinyl.
  • Conduct press approvals for Sales and/or customers for new items when applicable.
  • Apply press powder to printed sheets daily and correctly
  • Require all samples/proofs adhere to job specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance schedules when warranted.
  • Inform Press Supervisor of mechanical problems to press.
  • Perform proper procedures for 2-pass production job runs.
  • Deliver job jacket to next cost center upon job completion.
  • Examine conductivity of alcohol %, and pH level of fountain solutions at the beginning of each shift.
  • Fill in daily time sheet.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Must attend initial new hire and annual RCRA environmental training. This training will address environmental duties required such as properly labeling containers of hazardous waste, safely transporting hazardous waste to the storage area, container management, safe procedures to follow when adding to waste containers, preparing containers for shipment, spill clean-up procedures, emergency procedures, universal waste management, and a review of the Contingency Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

    • Press Operator experience, including UV press experience
    • Demonstrated ability to make-ready the press
    • Firm understanding of color matching
    • Mechanical aptitude
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule 
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Strong mathematical, computer and reading skills.
    • Must possess a positive attitude.
