Summary

SUMMARY: Responsible for reviewing the organization's operating mechanisms, test process effectiveness and ensure that business systems meet operating requirements. Oversees the efficiency and safety of current manufacturing processes and develops new processes to improve manufacturing efficiency and decrease its costs.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

· Designs processes and equipment related to the manufacture of paperboard that are cost effective and in keeping with a given budget.

· Evaluates precision and accuracy of production and testing equipment and formulates corrective action plan as necessary.

· Conducts tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

· Determines causes of operating errors and identifies corrective actions.

· Integrates new technologies or environmentally friendly practices into existing processes.

· Provides leadership for personnel assigned to their department.

· Secures the approval of his / her supervisor prior to implementing major changes

· Develops and maintains cooperative working relationship between management and unions.

· Enforces plant rules and safety policies and procedures including housekeeping.

· Is responsible for safety OSHA recordable rate (RCR) for his/her department.

· Performs other duties as deemed necessary by the Assistant General Manager.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

 

· BS or BA in an engineering field or other comparable certification preferred.

· Eighteen months of education and training beyond high school level in a manufacturing field, or a closely related area. Paper Mill experience highly preferred, but not mandatory!

 

· 2-5 years’ experience in general supervisory in a Process role that would include strategic planning, resource allocation, manpower modeling, leadership techniques, and production methods.

· Experienced in motivating, developing, and directing people as they work.

· Experienced in inspecting and evaluating the quality of products

· Experienced in looking at many indicators of system performance, taking into account their accuracy.

· Knowledge of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods

· Knowledge of policies and practices involved in personnel/human resource functions.

· Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques

· Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications

· Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

· Skilled in identifying complex problems and developing solutions.

· Skilled in determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will productivity.

· Skilled in identifying the key performance indicators of a system and the actions needed to improve or correct performance.

· Able to apply principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of goods and services.

· Able to determine when important changes have occurred in a system or are likely to occur

· Able to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems.

· Able to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

· Able to identify needs and product requirements in order to create designs

· Able to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
